Credit Union Service Organizations

An alumnus of the University of Wisconsin Stout, Gerald Jay P. Fahl graduated magna cum laude with a BS in general business administration. Additionally, Gerald Fahl worked at WESTconsin Credit Union for nearly three decades, where he held several positions, such as chief experience officer and chief marketing officer. He coached and mentored several team members in marketing, member experience, and sales. Mr. Fahl also led investment advisors and Credit Union Service Organizations (CUSOs).

CUSOs serve as profit centers for credit unions, pooling resources and lowering service costs. Most CUSOs have a specialty, such as car loans, commercial lending, consulting services, or technological resources. All CUSOs must have at least one credit union owner.

A CUSO must be a corporation, limited partnership, or limited liability company and have a contractual relationship with the credit union. The National Credit Union Association's regulations aren't explicit, but credit unions or members must account for 51 percent of the CUSO's clients.
